Postpartum depression is a common occurrence for women following birth. It happens to as many as one out of every seven women and is never something of which to be ashamed. If you or someone you know is experiencing a loss of appetite, insomnia, intense irritability, fatigue, lack of joy, severe mood swings, or difficulty bonding with the newborn, they may be suffering from PPD. This is not something to ignore, and counseling may be able to help. In some cases, PPD may be mild or go unnoticed, while in other serious cases it may result in suicide.
