Something isn't right. You can feel it.

A sense of sadness — not in your body, but in your soul. A whisper pushing you toward something more. You look in the mirror and what stares back isn’t really you.

You’ve tried to outrun it. Stayed busy. Built the career, the relationship, the life that was supposed to make it stop. But the feeling remains — that gap between who you are and who you know you could be.

You’re in the cave. In You Are Here, he hands you the map.

It begins with that same question and a red dot: where are you? From there, you walk through the three-phase existential process he has refined over more than a decade with real people in real crisis. Self-awareness. Self-realization. Self-actualization.

You will meet a woman trapped between her boardroom and her abusive husband. A new father who cannot escape the childhood nickname that still defines him. A young man whose breakup has erased his sense of self. You will watch each of them find their way out of the cave.

In the lineage of Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, Irvin Yalom’s Love’s Executioner, and Lori Gottlieb’s Maybe You Should Talk to SomeoneYou Are Here does what existential therapy was always meant to do. It puts the reader in the chair.

The cave door is open. You can leave whenever you are ready.

  • What you need to know before trying to fix anything

  • Why so many of us mistake the shadows on the wall for our identity, and how to step into the light
  • Practical, on-the-page exercises drawn from the same work Dr. Taylor uses in session
  • Thirteen patient stories of people who struggled with identity and how they overcame their struggles

About Dr. Christopher S. Taylor

Christopher S. Taylor, Ph.D., is an existential psychotherapist, author, educator, and entrepreneur dedicated to helping people rediscover meaning, identity, and purpose in an increasingly disconnected world.

He is the founder and owner of Taylor Counseling Group, one of Texas’ largest outpatient mental health practices, serving thousands of individuals, couples, and families across multiple locations. He is also the author of You Are Here, a book that explores the often-overlooked truth that healing begins not by escaping our lives, but by understanding where we are.

Dr. Taylor earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Texas A&M University, where he concentrated on existential philosophy, before completing a Master’s degree in Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision. His clinical work integrates existential psychotherapy with practical, evidence-based counseling to help individuals facing anxiety, depression, identity struggles, grief, and major life transitions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Taylor often serves as an adjunct professor, teaching counseling ethics at Dallas Theological Seminary and Amberton University, where he mentors the next generation of mental health professionals. As a Board-Approved LPC Supervisor, he has trained and supervised numerous associate counselors entering the profession.

His commitment to mental health extends beyond the therapy office. Appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, Dr. Taylor served on the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors, where he was later elected Vice Chair. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with state agencies, including Child Protective Services, worked within the family court system to improve outcomes for vulnerable families, and helped expand access to mental health services in underserved Texas communities. His work as coordinator and developer of Legacy Family Court contributed to the program receiving recognition as an “Agent of Change” by the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and an official resolution from Dallas County. He also served on the Texas Rural Health Task Force, helping develop strategies to improve behavioral healthcare access across rural Texas.

He lives in Texas with his wife and their children. When he’s not counseling, writing, or teaching, you’ll probably find him around a Dungeons & Dragons table building imaginary worlds, chasing the perfect fly-fishing stream, or reminding people that stories have a remarkable way of helping us understand our own.

Chris teaches counseling ethics as an adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary and Amberton University, serves on the board of the Grant Halliburton Foundation, and is the author of My Digital Practice. You Are Here is his second book.
