Shameka Brackens, M.S., LPC
Shameka Brackens, MS, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 25 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families. She earned her undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from Southern Methodist University and her master’s degree in Counseling from Texas A&M University–Commerce.
Throughout her career, Shameka has worked with children and adolescents at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as young adults and families. Her extensive experience across all age groups has provided her with a unique understanding of the developmental, emotional, social, and academic challenges individuals may face throughout different stages of life.
Shameka has experience providing both individual and group counseling and is passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, valued, and understood. She enjoys supporting young children and adolescents as they develop emotional awareness, strengthen coping skills, build confidence, navigate relationships, and manage the challenges that come with growing and changing. She also works with young adults and adults experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem challenges, and other personal or emotional concerns.
Her counseling approach is compassionate, person-centered, and strengths-based. Shameka believes that each client brings unique experiences, strengths, and perspectives to the counseling process. She works collaboratively with clients to identify their goals, explore challenges, develop effective coping strategies, and recognize the strengths they already possess.
Shameka believes counseling is a journey that no one should have to navigate alone. She is committed to walking alongside each client; not ahead of them or behind them; while providing encouragement, support, and guidance as they work through challenges and discover their own path forward. She believes meaningful change begins with feeling safe enough to be honest, supported enough to explore, and empowered enough to grow. Her goal is to help each client feel understood, develop the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges, and move toward greater emotional well-being and personal growth.
