Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD is a term that many have gravitated towards in recent years to describe a subtype of Major Depression onset during the fall and winter months. With the colder weather arriving, it’s common to begin to feel a lack of energy, lack of passion, and decreased motivation for exercise during these months. At the same time, don’t be so quick to diagnosis yourself and overuse the term to describe just overall dreariness. Depression and SAD are terms to be taken seriously so check out below if you think you are dealing with SAD and could benefit from seeking professional counseling.
- Do you have a sudden desire to withdraw from your social group?
- Do you feel fatigued more days than not and didn’t feel this way during summer?
- Are you finding it hard to concentrate now?
- Are you suddenly not sleeping or sleeping way too much?
- Are you feeling hopeless or worthless recently?
- Are you having an increase in pain in your joints, head, stomach?
- Do you feel irritable all of a sudden?
- Have you had a change in appetite? Either too much or too little now?
If you answered yes to more than half of those questions, it would be a great next step to reach out to a professional to get through this season.
