Lori Shaw

Lori has spent the majority of her career in the school setting.  Having worked with students and families at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, she is at ease and experienced in counseling all age groups. 

Larry Barber

Larry believes that his responsibility as a counselor is to be a companion for his clients as they go through dark, difficult times in their lives toward finding healing and hope. 

Sarah Cooke

Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a board-approved supervisor. She received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Baylor University and her graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Elina Kharmats

Elina Kharmats received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at University of North Texas, and her master’s degree from Amberton University in Professional Counseling. She is licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Joy Lawson

Joy Lawson received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and her master’s degree from Amberton University in Professional Counseling. She is licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Stephanie Jutras

Stephanie received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Religion from Trinity University and her Master of Social Work from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is licensed by the State of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

 

Alfred Horstman

Alfred has counseled a variety of people in all stages of life and has a great passion for relationship and family issues. He believes that a client-centered approach is the basis for a person to be heard, understood, and accepted, which is the first step in understanding others and resolving issues or potential issues.

Johanna Horstman

Johanna Horstman graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with degrees in Christian Education and Biblical Counseling.  Johanna believes that all people should be treated with dignity, grace, and mercy, and that everyone struggles with the basic building blocks of society:  relationships.  She works with individuals, married couples, families, employees, and small groups.

Lori Shaw, MS, LPC-S

Lori K. Shaw, M.S. LPC-S earned her undergraduate degree in Education from North Texas State University and her master’s degree in Counseling from East Texas State University.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Texas certified school counselor and teacher.  Lori has spent the majority of her career in the school setting.  Having worked with students and families at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, she is at ease and experienced in counseling all age groups.  Because Lori has a deep understanding of the need to build a bridge between therapy and school to achieve solution-focused outcomes, she will work closely with her client’s school counselor, thereby creating a holistic support system.

Lori is passionate about helping clients of all ages with behavioral, emotional, and social concerns in a collaborative and client-centered approach. As she guides her clients through their specific concerns, she helps them develop techniques to manage these issues and make good decisions. She specializes in working with clients during crisis situations such as suicidal ideation and trauma, as well as significant life-altering circumstances including academic transitions, familial changes, and parenting issues. 

Lori will work with the client individually and with the family, if desired, to help create/maintain healthy relationships and emotionally balanced lives.

Larry M. Barber, MA, LPC-S, CT

Marriage, couples, and individual counseling have been the focus during the 15 years Larry has worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  He is convinced that through counseling, especially Christian counseling, marriages, relationships, and lives can experience healing, transformation, and fulfillment. Larry is a certified facilitator in Prepare-Enrich, providing marital and premarital counseling utilizing that program.

Larry works with those suffering traumatic and life-changing events.  He specializes in counseling for trauma, grief and loss, divorce, anger issues, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and end-of-life issues. In addition, Larry has worked with men’s issues including pornography and sexual addiction. 

Larry received his master’s degree in Counseling from Amberton University.  Prior to that, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Oral Communications from Baylor University and a master’s degree in Biblical Studies from Abilene Christian University.  He is certified in Thanatology (the study of Death, Dying and Bereavement) through the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC).  He has also received certification in Death and Grief Studies through the Center For Loss and Life Transition at Colorado State University. He is the author of the grief survival guide Love Never Dies: Embracing Grief With Hope and Promise.

Sarah is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a board-approved supervisor. She received her undergraduate degree in Sociology from Baylor University and her graduate degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. Sarah discovered her passion for helping others while pursuing her undergraduate degree. While at Baylor, Sarah volunteered with the Texas Youth Commission and Campfire USA, which allowed her to interact with mental health professionals and develop a drive for supporting others and providing a safe space for people to share their feelings.

During graduate school, Sarah interned at a domestic violence and incest recovery center and Parkland Hospital. Sarah believes in the inherent resiliency within each person. Her goal is to help people process feelings in order to become healthier and happier. Sarah specializes in depression, anxiety, trauma support, stress management, and family counseling. She utilizes an eclectic approach combining interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy.

Elina works to see each individual’s reality from that individual’s perspective.  She believes healing and authentic change can begin with a therapeutic alliance between client and therapist.  This relationship is derived from an empathetic counseling approach, with each therapeutic intervention tailored to the specific needs of the client. 

As an LPC with nine years of clinical experience, Elina works with adult individuals, couples, and families.  She has experience working with trauma, addiction and recovery, anxiety, stress management, depression, and grief.  She implements various modalities and techniques derived from Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Counseling, Family Systems Therapy, and Humanistic Therapy.

Stephanie Jutras, MSW, LCSW

Stephanie believes that each client is the expert on their own life and that her role as a therapist is to build a positive, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship with them in order to provide a space where they can safely explore whatever they are struggling with and find the solutions that work best for them. 

Stephanie works with children, adolescents, and adults and has experience treating many concerns including anxiety, depression, tic disorders, insomnia, childhood behavioral disorders, grief, and trauma. Alfred Horstman, MA, LPC Intern

Alfred received his undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Kansas, and master’s degrees in Counseling and Education from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern under the supervision of Dr. Christopher Taylor, Ph.D., LPC-S.  Alfred counsels a variety of people in all stages of life and has a great passion for marriage and family, relationship issues, and pornography dependency. He has studied under the top names in their fields and uses a variety of research-based methods to best serve your particular needs. He has years of life experience in serving people in pornography dependency, pre-marital, marital, divorce, post-divorce, blended family, nontraditional family, family systems therapy, and singles counseling, as well as trauma, grief and loss, mood and behavioral issues, Christian life, and establishing healthy boundaries.

Marriage is an important institution and sometimes relationships get off track. People often need help returning to the loving relationship they once had, and those entering into relationships need the skills to begin. Alfred strives to provide a place to build a safe environment that restores better communication, safety, trust, and intimacy.

Divorce, relationship issues, and pornography dependency need experienced help that is non-judgmental and research-based. Alfred also offers counseling jointly with his wife to serve couples that are contemplating or navigating divorce utilizing Gottman1, Prepare/Enrich, and Marriage Strong training to resolve issues and develop plans to move people through their difficult times.

Johanna Horstman graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with degrees in Christian Education and Biblical Counseling.  Johanna believes that all people should be treated with dignity, grace, and mercy, and that everyone struggles with the basic building blocks of society:  relationships.  She works with individuals, married couples, families, employees, and small groups.  Areas of specialization include premarital, marriage, divorce intervention, pornography and/or sex addiction, intimate partner violence, communication and conflict resolution, trauma, and grief/loss.  Along with her husband, Alfred, Johanna has developed and led seminars on pornography addiction and intimate partner violence.  She counsels from a person-centered theory and is a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator, a certified Marriage Strong facilitator, and has received Level One training in the Gottman method.  Johanna and Alfred occasionally partner together for couples counseling.  Johanna is an LPC Intern supervised by Dr. Christopher Taylor, Ph.D., LPC-S.
