Is your child feeling anxious about going back to school? Are you feeling anxious about the start of school as well? August can be a stressful month for everyone.
Here are 5 tips to help decrease stress and maintain emotionally balanced lives.
1. Healthy Body = Healthy Mind
Exercise and sleep are two key factors in helping keep stress levels low. Keep active and get lots of rest these last few weeks of summer.
2. Set Reasonable Limits
Don’t try to do too much all at once in the beginning. Students can get burned out quickly if they try to study too much in the first of the year. Slow and steady wins the race.
3. Practice Mindfulness
Pay attention to the present in a non-judgmental way. Only a couple of minutes of mindfulness a day (meditation or guided imagery) can go a long way in helping you and your child stay calm.
4. Get a Hobby
Stay busy doing something that brings you joy. Life and stressful situations are easier to handle when you are happy and fulfilled.
5. Shift your Focus
Help your children shift from making straight A’s to success coming from making progress academically, socially, and emotionally. A well-rounded approach leads to an emotionally healthy child.
Teachers, parents, and students alike will soon begin the journey of another stress-filled year. Remember to use these 5 tips if you and your child feel stress coming on. You will be glad you did!
