In the last post we looked at different types of mental health professionals and the financial aspects. If you are considering therapy, when it is beneficial to actually reach out for help? Personally I think it is good to experience having a chance to talk things through with an unbiased and supportive third party. It is different than talking to a friend or family member.
Everyone else seems to give advice or have a stake in your decisions. It is a different dynamic when seeing a counselor who makes the entire time about you and not chiming in all the time with their own experiences. If others are encouraging you to seek help may be a good time. Sometimes others can see things we can’t see in our situation. Also if your mood is affecting your ability to function in your daily life and causing distress are also good indicators to reach out for help.
How do I know if a therapist is a good fit for me? Because therapy can be difficult at times to talk about uncomfortable things it can be easy to give up too quickly. Give the a counselor at least a few sessions to get to know each other before deciding if it works for you or not.
